Criodán Ó Murchú

I am thrilled each day to chat and learn from some of the brightest teens and young adults across Ireland.

Criodán Ó Murchú

Spunout gives young people such as myself a voice that is often overlooked in the news and politics, and provides impartial, non-judgemental, holistic advice and facts to those who may not know or have anyone to ask.

I am constantly reminded of spunout’s motto, “By young people, for young people” as content is curated and designed based on the input of almost 150 volunteer Action Panel members across the country.

I became involved in spunout in 2018 whilst searching for volunteer opportunities online. Spunout stood out to me especially as I realised how much a younger version of myself would have benefitted at the time from a site like spunout. From there, I began writing opinion pieces and proofreading articles before in August 2018 I cycled solo from Malin Head to Mizen Head to raise funds for the charity. Early in 2019, I joined the Action Panel and later was elected to the National Action Panel and Board of Directors. Spunout has provided me with a sense of community with young people that I did not know was possible. Since becoming involved in 2018, I have constantly been surprised at the volume I have learned and the amazing people I have met, both staff and volunteers. I have also learned that whilst I have faced some difficulty in my life, it often is eclipsed by other people’s significant struggles such as homelessness, healthcare access, schooling and more.
