KACPER

Kacper, 16, Dublin

If I didn’t get help from the youth project, I would probably still be wandering around with no feeling of purpose or belonging.

Kacper, 16, Dublin

My name is Kacper, I’m 16 and I’m originally from Poland. I moved to Ireland around 4 years ago. The feeling that has stayed with me before I got involved with the Talk About Youth Project in Pearse street in Dublin 2. , was a lack of belonging and purpose. It never occurred to me that I might have such a need for just simply getting involved in a group.

As soon as I got involved with various programmes, such as the art group, international group and music group – many new friendships and connections were established. I finally felt that I had found a welcoming, open space to meet with my friends and simply socialise. Another life changing aspect of the youth project was that I have gotten the support and resources that are needed to pursue my hobbies and ambitions. It has also provided a place where we can speak and be heard. This has encouraged me to express my opinions and take actions!

One of the best experiences that I’ve gotten over the last 4 years would be getting involved in the Reel Youth Project and a NYF summer film school. Thanks to the youth office, I was offered a place on a film camp, when I could gain experience from working on a functioning film set, work from a script and get used to the equipment and edit. It also allowed me to gain confidence in what I am really passionate about.

If I didn’t get help from the youth project, I would probably still be wandering around with no feeling of purpose or belonging. I would like to say a big, big thank you to anyone who has helped me along the way and supported me. If not for all of the great experiences, I wouldn’t be the kind of person that I’m now. I have changed from a shy, doubtful boy into a confident, open minded person that’s eager for challenges. Now tell me – isn’t that truly life changing?
